Carmella, what a great post! I love your positive outlook. It reminds me of what I try to teach my kids about mistakes that come from decision-making: that basically there aren’t any mistakes, just learning experiences.

I couldn’t agree more. Whenever I go to my kids’ concerts and recitals, it isn’t the kids who perform impeccably who impress me, it’s the ones who give it all they’ve got and don’t go to pieces when they screw up. It takes guts and character to do that.

Wish the students I teach could read this — they could learn a lot from it.

Carmella, I love this post. I’m going to forward it to each of my kids. We need to get through rough patches to get anywhere – playing the piano, writing a book, finding love. Learning to fail goes hand in hand with learning to live courageously and joyfully.
